According to astronomers the United States (U.S.), 'arm' spiral Milky Way is the result of repeated collisions with other smaller galaxies.
Researchers at the University of California, Irvine, said the telescope data and detailed simulations show, called the Sagittarius dwarf galaxy, the Milky Way twice hit an apparent size larger.
The incident took place in two billion years ago. During this galactic collision UPI quoted, star sent away from the two galaxies in a long round gradually pulled out of the rotation of the Milky Way into the 'arm' spiral.
"When all the dark matter first hit the Milky Way, 80-90% of the material is dated. The first collision reinforced trigger instability and rapidly forming 'arms' spiral and related structures such as rings outside our galaxy, "said lead author Chris Purcell.
In the near future, the galaxy Sagittarius will hit the southern part of the Milky Way again, he added. 'Immediately' in this case is a matter of galactic or about 10 million years.
